Woman Achiever Sreya Basu - Independent Journalist

When the going gets tough, the tough get going maybe a cliché for some, but for a lot of women facing struggles on a daily basis, there’s no option but to face them and move on. Listening to their struggles is getting an insight into what they faced at every step to become the people they are now – a beacon of hope for others. We can mouth all the platitudes we want – ‘every cloud has a silver living’, ‘there is light at the end of the tunnel’ – but we can understand struggle only if we live through it and understand what the other person is going through.

Our Women Achiever SREYA BASU is an Independent Journalist who has made commendable difference to society with her writings. Like they say, the power of the pen is mightier than the sword - Sreya knows what she wants. She knows what she doesn't, better. She also runs a canine sanctuary, that's the GPS navigator to her own Rabbit Hole.

THE INTERVIEW:

What do you consider the main achievements in your life?

My independence. That I can live exactly the way I want to, without being answerable to anyone. Came at too high a price though.

Your motto for Women Empowerment

I deserve everything I believe I do. And I work hard to earn it.

What qualities do Women need to imbibe within themselves to be more Empowered and successful in life?

The brain and heart must be in total coordination. You must know yourself thoroughly so that you don't go seeking approval from others about your own self. Work on making your spine stronger. Stand firm for what and who you believe in. No matter how strong the storm rises. Take responsibilities of your wrong decisions/moves.

What drives you to be at the Top of your Game? What are your success strategies?

That I don't play any game (laughs). Have never been comfortable with running the rat race or walking the conventional road. There's a PhD in English Literature and a MSc in Mathematics. And here I am, leaving my job at one of the reputed national media houses, to rescue abandoned/ailing/abused dogs and spend all my monthly earnings on them. Recognize and honour the crazy in you. Because there is no sanity without insanity - that, you may say, is my success strategy.

Which causes related to Women would you like to support?

Any cause is worth supporting if it works on the betterment of self/society/world. However, if asked to choose, I would say health, education and safety.
