MCA Makes Wankhede Office Wheelchair Accessible

The Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) has taken a progressive step towards accessibility and inclusion with the installation of a permanent wheelchair-accessible ramp at the entrance of its office at Wankhede Stadium. The initiative has been warmly welcomed by Mumbai’s Wheelchair Cricket Team Captain, Rahul Ramugade, and the city’s wider differently-abled cricketing community.

In May 2025, on Global Accessibility Awareness Day, representatives of Mumbai’s wheelchair cricket team submitted a formal request to MCA Executive Secretary Mr. Chandrakant Naik, urging the creation of a permanent civil ramp for unhindered access. During a recent visit in November 2025, the team expressed delight upon seeing the completed ramp — a structural change that now allows wheelchair users to enter the MCA office independently, safely, and with dignity.

The wheelchair cricket community extends its gratitude to the MCA Office Bearers and Apex Council Members for this impactful action, marking a significant stride toward accessibility, inclusion, and equal opportunity in Mumbai cricket.

Additionally, the MCA’s decision on 30 June 2025 to establish a Differently-Abled Cricketers Committee has been acknowledged as a vital development aimed at supporting disabled cricketers. However, the committee is yet to be officially constituted, leaving many athletes awaiting essential guidance and structured support.

With 3 December 2025 — International Day of Persons with Disabilities — around the corner, the community respectfully urges the MCA to formally constitute the committee and activate much-needed support mechanisms. Doing so will reinforce Mumbai’s commitment to creating an inclusive, accessible, and empowering cricket ecosystem for all.
