Xiaomi’s newest flagship, the 17 Pro 5G, represents its push to combine power, creativity, and standout design in a compact form. Launched as part of the Xiaomi 17 series in late September 2025, the Pro model brings flagship internals in a relatively compact 6.3-inch body, along with some novel design touches. It aims to compete in the top tier not just on performance, but also in camera innovation, display quality, and user experience.
What makes it different?
What sets the 17 Pro apart is its blend of ambition and practicality. It runs
on the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 chipset, built on a 3 nm process, delivering
exceptional speed and efficiency. While most flagships are getting bulkier,
Xiaomi keeps things sleek with a 6.3-inch LTPO AMOLED display that offers a 120
Hz refresh rate and a stunning peak brightness of around 3,500 nits. The
standout feature is the new “Dynamic Back Display” — a secondary screen on the
rear that can show notifications, serve as a camera viewfinder, and display
customizable wallpapers.
The triple camera system, all 50 MP sensors, covers wide, ultra-wide, and periscope telephoto lenses with up to 5× optical zoom. A 6,300 mAh battery powers the device, with 100 W wired and 50 W wireless charging ensuring rapid top-ups. Together, these make the Xiaomi 17 Pro a true flagship that emphasizes both form and function.
The indicative pricing
Currently launched in China, the Xiaomi 17 Pro 5G starts at ¥4,999, which is
roughly equivalent to USD 700. Considering import duties and localization
costs, the expected India price would likely fall between ₹90,000 and ₹1,10,000
depending on configuration and taxes. Imported listings for the 12 GB / 256 GB
variant are already hovering around ₹96,000.

Camera and Video review
The 17 Pro’s triple 50 MP camera setup delivers uniform color and detail across
all focal lengths. The main sensor, with a wide f/1.67 aperture and optical
image stabilization, produces sharp, vibrant images with balanced dynamic
range. Daylight photos retain excellent detail and natural tones, while the HDR
processing avoids the over-saturated look seen in some competitors. In low
light, performance remains strong, though the periscope telephoto’s narrower
f/3.0 aperture slightly limits its reach in dim settings. The ultra-wide lens
handles distortion well, though slight edge softness appears in extreme low
light.
Video capabilities are robust, offering up to 8K at 30 fps and 4K at 60 fps, with solid stabilization that minimizes shakes during handheld shooting. The rear secondary display doubles as a live viewfinder for selfies using the main camera array, resulting in professional-grade self-portraits. Overall, the camera system delivers versatility and reliability, positioning it among the better photography phones of 2025.
