The iPhone 18 Pro is Apple’s most photographer-focused flagship to date, headlined by the industry’s first mechanical variable aperture on an iPhone and a new 2nm A20 Pro chip that finally addresses thermal throttling. It starts at ₹1,64,900 in India for the 256GB eSIM variant, with sales opening September 18.

Enable Pro Controls in Settings under Camera if the row does not appear by default, then customize which controls sit in your viewfinder for quick access. This single step transforms the shooting experience because you no longer need to dive into menus while framing a shot.

Use f/1.48 for night street photography without a tripod, but switch to f/2.8 or f/4.0 for two or more people in the frame to keep both faces in focus. The wider aperture gathers more light, yet the shallower depth of field means a group shot at f/1.48 will leave someone soft.

Remember that Portrait mode still exists and offers Portrait Lighting effects and a Depth slider that the physical aperture cannot replicate, so use Portrait mode for dramatic single-subject blur and the aperture for natural depth in standard photos and video. The two tools serve different creative purposes and knowing when to use each will elevate your results.

The Camera Control button can launch Magnifier or Code Scanner instead of the Camera app if you scan barcodes or need magnification frequently, change this under Settings, Camera, Camera Control. This is an underrated customization that turns a hardware button into a genuine productivity shortcut rather than just a shutter release.

If you shoot in bright sunlight, stopping down to f/4.0 can help prevent overexposure without needing to raise shutter speed to extremes, but check the histogram to avoid diffraction softness. The histogram is your best friend here because what looks sharp on a small screen may actually be losing fine detail at the pixel level.
